Why Argus exists
The failure mode is quiet, not loud.
The dangerous outcome in this category is not a system that says “risky” too often. It is a system that says “clean” because a lookup failed, a source was stale, or nobody ever checked — and nothing in the output distinguishes that from a real clearance.
Argus was built around making that collapse impossible, and then extended to the question address-level controls cannot answer at all: what stands behind the counterparty. As wallets began signing without a human in the loop, that question stopped being an analyst's job and became infrastructure.
How it is built
Argus is developed as a single, gated codebase: build, typecheck, lint, full test suite and a clean working tree pass together or the checkpoint does not count. Architecture tests enforce the boundaries the product claims to have.
It has been through independent review cycles, with corrections integrated rather than argued away — including corrections that narrowed claims this site now makes more carefully.

Explainability
A verdict without its reasoning is an opinion. Every decision carries the checks that ran, where each finding came from, and what could not be established.
Fail closed
An absent, stale or failed measurement is never rendered as a clean result. When Argus does not know, the output says so rather than defaulting to permissive.
Provider independence
Intelligence sources sit behind an evidence contract. Swapping, adding or losing a provider changes coverage — it does not change decision logic.
Chain neutrality
The engine holds no chain knowledge, and tests enforce it. Ecosystems are implementations at the boundary, never the identity of the product.
